Narcís Vilar receives the Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Award for his doctoral thesis research
Narcís Vilar, PhD from the University of Barcelona and member of the Sensofar R&D scientific staff, has been awarded the Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Award. This recognition highlights his doctoral research and its contribution to disseminating scientific knowledge in Catalan within optical physics.

The University of Barcelona has announced the fifth edition of the Antoni M. Badia i Margarit Awards, which recognize outstanding doctoral theses written in Catalan. The initiative aims to promote the use of Catalan in academic research and encourage the dissemination of high-quality scientific work in the language.
The awards are divided into several categories:
Humanities and Social Sciences.
Experimental Sciences and Health.
Gender Equality and Sustainable Development.
Best initiative for the dissemination of a doctoral thesis written in Catalan.

Through these categories, the University seeks to highlight the value of research conducted in Catalan and to strengthen its visibility within the academic community.
These awards are named in honour of Antoni M. Badia i Margarit, a renowned Catalan linguist and former rector of the University of Barcelona who played a key role in the institution’s academic development.
A doctoral thesis recognized for advancing optical microscopy techniques
Narcís has been awarded the prize in the category of “Experimental Sciences and Health” for his doctoral thesis entitled “Development and implementation of optical microscopy techniques for measuring 3D surfaces in additive manufacturing.”

The thesis, supervised by Dr. Guillem Carles and Dr. Martí Duocastella, focuses on developing novel optical techniques and systems to address evolving metrology challenges in additive manufacturing.
With this award, the research conducted by Narcís Vilar during his PhD is recognized as a valuable contribution to scientific research in industrial and technological environments, while also promoting the dissemination of high-quality research in Catalan.
